Thunderclap Murphy performs live ambient music in libraries, exhibition spaces and retreats across Ireland. He works from a table of instruments, everything from flute and glockenspiel to synth, and loops each line over the last while the room watches it build.

What a booking involves
The performance is fully self-contained. It arrives, it is built, it plays, and it leaves the same night.
- It runs ninety minutes door to door, in three sections with a short break between each, so people can stand up and move about.
- Four speakers stand at the corners of the room, so the sound surrounds the audience instead of facing them from one end.
- A crew of three builds it in 45 to 60 minutes and takes it down after the last section.
- The venue provides the room, the sockets, and an hour before doors.
The set-up, item by item, is written out on its own page, down to the cabling and the stage plan.
Commissions
He also writes to order. A commission might be a piece made for one room and played once, or a longer work that runs all day while a space stays open.
Say what the occasion is and he will tell you what he can make of it.
