Hometree

Hometree buys strategically significant pieces of degraded land and restores them: rewetting cut-away peatland, bringing meadows back for pollinators, converting monoculture plantation into mixed native forest, and letting abandoned sites rewild. The land is held by the trust in perpetuity. It runs a tree nursery and restoration sites across the west, at Ennistymon, Cnocán Bán, Gleneaskey in Sligo, Illaun near Miltown Malbay, and Avoca.

The way in is the volunteer day. Open volunteer and maintenance days run on the first and third Saturday of each month at the Ennistymon HQ, 10am to 4pm, and community tree-planting days run at the restoration sites through the winter. Longer immersions include the Experience Week, the Nature Restoration Weekend and the Ardnaculla Summer School, a community and ecology festival. The full listings page carries the dates.
