GROW HQ

GROW HQ is the home of GIY, the Grow It Yourself movement Michael Kelly started, and it was built to collapse the distance between where food is grown, cooked and eaten. The garden sits directly outside the window, the kitchen is in full view, and the café is in the middle of it. They put the distance at 112 steps.

The garden is registered organic and the kitchen runs to zero waste, preserving, pickling and smoking what it cannot serve and composting the rest. The menu changes with the harvest. A free audio tour takes you round the garden and the growing operation.

The education programme runs all year, from a growing school and a cookery school to foraging, fermenting, beekeeping and camps for children in the school holidays. Check the current opening hours before you travel, since the café and the Blaa Shack keep different ones. Free parking on site.
