Vladek Spiegelman survived Auschwitz. Years later his son Art sets the story down in comics, drawing Jews as mice and Germans as cats, with the tense present-day relationship between the two men running through it. It was the first graphic novel to win a Pulitzer Prize, in 1992. The subject is the Holocaust, and it is a heavy read.
