The Arrival
Shaun Tan tells the whole thing in pictures — 128 pages, six chapters, not a word of dialogue — so the reader arrives in the new country as unable to read it as the man is. The drawings were built from photographs of real models and props, which is why a wholly invented city keeps the look of an old family album. Published by Hodder Children’s Books in 2006.
