Sonairte occupies an eighteenth-century farm on the Nanny estuary at Laytown. There is a walled organic garden to walk, a nature trail and river walk, and a café serving vegetarian and vegan food. The eco shop sells sustainable produce and refills cleaning products, and the information centre sits inside it.
The Bee Boles Beekeeping Museum is the oddity worth the trip. In the working farm of two centuries ago the straw bee skeps were carried indoors for the winter into two sets of bee housing, and one of those survives. It now holds the museum, with artefacts turned up in the garden and during the restoration. If it is shut when you arrive, ask at the shop for the key.
Open Friday to Sunday from 9.30am, with a seasonal closing time. Confirm before you travel.
