Dublin City Council Culture Company

Dublin City Council Culture Company runs two historic buildings and a great deal of what happens in them. 14 Henrietta Street is its social history museum of Dublin life, tracing one Georgian house through its tenement years. Richmond Barracks in Inchicore holds a library, a garden and the Culture Connects programme.

Most of the rest is free and open. Culture Club is a series of hosted talks and tours that take people inside the city’s cultural buildings; the events cost nothing but must be booked. The Dublin Festival of History runs walks, talks, tours and screenings every year, free. Historians in Residence work in neighbourhoods across the city and push people toward the collections in Dublin City Library and Archive, and there is a Historian in Residence for Children. The National Neighbourhood builds cultural projects with communities, and Tea and Chats is exactly what it sounds like.

They also keep the Cultural Audit and Map, a database of the city’s cultural buildings, organisations and networks. Which is, more or less, this directory’s job done at municipal scale.
