The cartoonist at the centre never existed. Sonny Liew invents Charlie Chan Hock Chye and a lifetime of his comics, and through them retells Singapore’s modern history in a run of borrowed styles and pastiches. It won three Eisner Awards in 2017, the first ever for a Singaporean artist.
