Kenny’s Bookshop

Des and Maureen Kenny opened two rooms on High Street in 1940, and four of their children and three grandchildren still run the business. The city-centre shop moved out to Liosban in 2008, which traded a small room for a very large one: new Irish writing and bestsellers, secondhand and rare books, textbooks, leabhair Ghaeilge, and thousands of titles under five euro. The Kenny Gallery, showing contemporary Irish art, sits in the same premises. It is open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm, and browsing costs nothing.
